It is with enormous pleasure that we announce the promotion of a new Principal in our Victorian practice, Dr Daniel Beck. Daniel specialises in chemistry, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.
Daniel joined Wrays in 2018 after 11 years working at the Australian Patent Office (IP Australia), where he supervised a multidisciplinary life sciences examination section of 24 examiners and issued decisions on the validity of opposed patent applications as a Hearing Officer. This experience provided him with a network of connections within the patent office and an insider’s perspective on patent prosecution and oppositions to grant, as well as prior art searching and examination practice in Australia.
Daniel’s experience also includes a position as a Post-doctoral Research Scientist at Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research in Basel, Switzerland researching approaches to asymmetric synthesis of small organic molecules including natural products and drug leads.
Todd Shand, Head of the Wrays Life Science practice, announced the appointment saying “I know that everyone at Wrays will agree with me when I say that this appointment is very well-deserved. Daniel is an incredible asset to Wrays, not only contributing his specialist pharmaceutical and biotechnology skills to our Life Science patent practice but also as a leader in our Melbourne practice. Daniel is highly respected by both our Australian and International clients who all thoroughly enjoy working with him.”
Daniel replied “I am very grateful to Wrays for the promotion. I really enjoy working at Wrays and our culture of consultation and collaboration which allows us to produce the best result for our clients. I’m looking forward to growing our Victorian practice and continuing to work with the state’s world-class biotechnology researchers and entrepreneurs as well as my existing international clients.”
When Daniel is not protecting and defending IP assets, he can be found gardening, fishing or volunteering with the local Chinese Association.
Please join us in congratulating Daniel on his achievement.
