Congratulations to Gary Cox, Natalie Shoolman, Andrew Goatcher, Grant Shoebridge, Linda Kennaugh, Penelope Farbey, and Todd Shand.

Here’s what the researchers and our clients had to say about Wrays.

Solidifying its position as a leading practice in the patent space, Wrays consistently delivers winning results across the spectrum of contentious and non-contentious matters. Its unwavering commitment to innovation is evident in its robust support for start-ups. Leveraging its unique in-house tools and dedicated IP strategy and management team, the outfit provides financial backing, mentoring and training to clients and stakeholders. The ensemble of 44 patent attorneys is one of the largest teams of dedicated IP professionals, each practitioner bringing a blend of legal and commercial acumen.

Chairman and principal Gary Cox has been a renowned personality for decades, known for his proficiency in both IP litigation and patent prosecution. Cox’s extensive technical background in biochemistry and microbiology equips him to represent industry heavyweights in the courtroom as both a lawyer and a topical expert; recent examples include the successful defence on multiple opposition case for Amgen brought on by Sanofi, and his subsequent representation for the appeal proceedings in the Federal Court.

Another ambidextrous expert in the team is principal and head of life sciences Todd Shand. He has extensive knowledge in drafting, prosecuting and litigating various patent types, including new chemical entities, therapeutic uses, formulations and more. Shand’s detailed understanding of the drug discovery and development process, combined with his expertise in collecting expert evidence for litigation, makes him an asset in high-stakes cases.

Working alongside Cox on the complex Amgen dispute, principal Natalie Shoolman leads the litigation and dispute resolution team, with 20-plus years of experience working in top-tier firms. Shoolman displays impressive proficiency in pre-litigation strategies, licensing compliance regulations and IP due diligence, displaying her deep understanding of competition law.

Seasoned maverick Andrew Goatcher is go-to counsel for those looking to maximise their IP assets with ironclad defence against allegations of misleading and deceptive conduct under Australian Consumer Law.

Principals Linda Kennaugh and Penelope Farbey are the pillars of the prosecution practice, dedicated to advancing their patrons’ commercial and scientific goals through their deep understanding of the life sciences sector. Trans-Tasman attorney Kennaugh capitalises on her academic background in biochemistry to provide unparalleled strategic IP management, patent drafting and opinion reports on FTO, validity and infringement. Farbey is technically trained in molecular microbiology matters but is not limited to this niche when she works with universities and large multinational companies to enhance their assets across borders, providing ample support in patent opposition and infringement matters.

Having recently joined Wrays, principal and vice president of the IPTA Grant Shoebridge is a notable influence on Australia’s patent legislation and a renowned opinion leader on gene-related patent matters.

We are grateful to our clients for their continued trust and collaboration, which play a vital role in these achievements. These results reflect the professionalism and unwavering commitment of our team to delivering strategic, high-quality intellectual property services throughout Australia and globally.
