Congratulating Long-term Wrays Director on his Retirement

Please join the Board of Wrays as we congratulate and extend our best wishes to Director Peter Caporn who announced his retirement this week.

Since joining Wrays nearly 30 years ago, Peter has been central to the development and growth of the firm’s Chemical practice, working with clients predominantly from the mining and resources sector to protect their innovative chemical, mineral processing, and process engineering technologies.

As a Director and Board member, Peter has been a pillar of support for the firm. He has been a driver of our important international growth strategy and was Chair of the former Wrays partnership between 2006 and 2008.

Peter has always been highly respected by his clients for his constructive and pragmatic approach to achieve their commercial goals. He has been an important mentor to our Wrays patent and trade mark attorneys, ensuring their personal fulfilment, ongoing professional development and career success.

Peter has made a significant contribution to industry. His roles include 15 years on the regional committee for the Licensing Executives Society of Australia & New Zealand in Western Australia (between 1995 and 2010) where he also served periods as both Regional Chair and Treasurer. Peter was a member of the State Government’s Innovation Advisory Committee between 2007 and 2008 and was involved as a judge in Western Australia’s Innovator of the Year Awards from 2010 to 2012. He was also a member of the State Government’s Innovation Vouchers Program evaluation panel for 2015 and has been a member of the AusIMM’s Perth Branch committee since early 2020. Peter has been regularly called upon to provide technical presentations relating to intellectual property protection for IP Australia and a variety of institutional and professional groups.

Announcing Peter’s retirement, Wrays Chairman Gary Cox said “After nearly three decades of dedication, it is with sadness but warm wishes that we farewell one of our Directors, Peter Caporn. Peter has played an important role in shaping our company’s development, growth, and success. During his directorial stewardship, the firm has arguably developed one of the best technical chemical IP groups in the country and the firm remains indebted to his vision and commitment. Peter has made a lasting impact at Wrays and his presence will be greatly missed.”

Peter said “It is with a mix of emotions that I announce my retirement this week. It’s been a real pleasure to have contributed to the company’s evolution and I am grateful to Wrays for the opportunity to achieve personal and professional success. Thank you to my fellow Directors, and past and present Wrays colleagues for their support over the past 29 years, and to my clients, a number of whom I’ve worked with for almost 35 years. I wish Wrays every success for the future. I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family and friends, travelling, and enjoying all of my recreational activities.”

Please join us in congratulating Peter on his outstanding career and accomplishments. Peter will continue to work at Wrays until 19 December 2023.
